About the farm

The same family and the same farm since 1973

Bill and Ricki Neuberg bought this place in 1973, moved to Millstone Township in 1978, and have been breeding Thoroughbreds since 1975.

What the farm is for

Nearaway Farm breeds and raises horses for racing, riding, and driving. Thoroughbreds are the breed we know best, and we work with driving horses of any breed alongside them.

One of our goals has always been to find new careers for our retired racehorses. Two of them are better known than the rest. Tiger One won the 1996 three day Eventing Selection Trials. Sloopy went on to become a top level international event horse. Others have become show hunters, jumpers, or pleasure horses, which is a quieter outcome and just as much the point.

A horse that has finished racing at four still has fifteen or twenty years of work in front of it, and finding the right second job takes knowing the horse. That is easier when the horse was foaled here.

The property

Twenty seven acres in Millstone Township, adjoining more than ninety acres of county park.

The county park trails and tracks next door were laid out specifically for horses and walkers, so hacking out does not begin with loading a trailer.

Every paddock is fenced in flexible PVC rail. It flexes when a horse hits it instead of splintering the way board does, there are no nails to back out, and it does not need repainting every few years. The wide lanes between paddocks are deliberate too. Horses turned out along a shared fence line find ways to hurt themselves, and a lane costs less than a vet call.

Riding does not stop for weather

The arena is covered and lit, with mirrors down one long side so a rider can see what a horse is actually doing. The footing is dragged between sessions. Lessons run through the winter, and a horse in work stays in work.

Dawn Adams

At the farm since 2000, and a lifelong horsewoman who knows everything here. She won the 2003 Area II Novice Eventing Championship on our Thoroughbred Tiger One, and shows her mini, Spirit, in Pleasure Driving classes.
Astrid Fallon

Riding and driving instructor. She has been driving since she was ten, has competed in Pleasure Driving and Driven Dressage, and has worked with everything from Thoroughbreds to Friesians.
